Funke And Her Husband Can Now Be Referred To As Ex-convicts

A faction of lawyers have argued that Nollywood actress Funke Akindele Bellos and her husband JJS Skillz can be referred to as ex-convicts after pleading guilty in Lagos court following their arrest. Funke and her husband flouted lockdown regulations on the 4th of April for gathering crowd at a birthday party. The couple were arraigned before court for violation of the Lagos State Infectious Disease Regulations whereas, they pleaded guilty. Funke and JJC Skillz were given 14 days of community service and a fine of N100,000 each. Reacting to the incident, a lawyer known as Mr Ahmed Raji told the News Agency of Nigeria that the couple can be referred to as ex-convicts for pleading guilty at the Court of Law. He cleared that it's not necessarily that the two cannot hold political office as their offence is not on financial grounds. "Akindele and her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello, can be referred to as ex-convicts having pleaded guilty and were sentenced for violating restrictions order in Lagos.” "Technically speaking, anybody who has gone through a trial and is convicted can be referred to as an ex-convict.” He continued, "It is not in all cases that an ex-convict will not be allowed to hold or seek for a political office. Minor traffic offences and what have you will not disqualify you from holding or seeking for a political office,". "This is because before the judge passed the sentence, they would have pleaded guilty, and trial would have taken place before judgment.” "So, as far as the law is concerned presently, they are ex convicts; but, I believe they took that process for convenience of their freedom".
