Female celebrities who you probably didn’t know are queens

Wendy Shay, Bofowaa and Mercy Asiedu are all part of Ghanaian 'celebrity queen mothers'. These female celebrities are purposely handed over the task to promote development in the villages or towns where they are enstooled and are usually referred to as 'Nkosuohemaa', 'Nyonufia' among others. It is also interesting to note that while some of these women were crowned as queens in their hometowns, others especially those married to chiefs took up their 'queenship' titles by default. Bofowaa was tasked with the development of the Ahafo Ano North Municipality in the Ashanti Region. The multiple award-winning actress Mercy Asiedu won an automatic ticket of becoming a queenmother after she married Nana Agyemang Badu, Chief of Kunsu in the Ahafo Ano South District in the Ashanti Region. Her marriage and coronation took place in April 2017. The ace broadcaster became the Queen-mother of Adumasa in the Eastern Region as a result of her marriage to Oyikekyire Nana Ansah Kwao IV in January 2018. She was conferred with the title 'Oheneyere Nana Awo Dansoa'. The Ghanaian businesswoman, philanthropist, and model was enstooled as queen-mother in the Volta Region on February 2, 2021.
