The popular messaging app has finally answered its users' prayers by launching the highly anticipated dark mode. According to the Facebook-owned platform, this new colour scheme reduces eye strain in low light environments and minimizes eye fatigue. The WhatsApp Dark Mode feature is available to Android and iOS users. After testing this new colour scheme for over a year, WhatsApp has officially rolled out its dark mode for its 2 billion users around the world. "We are very excited to update WhatsApp with the most requested feature from our users everywhere – dark mode," the Facebook-owned messaging app announced in a blog post. With this new feature, users' eyes can get a break as you no longer have to worry about the harsh glare from your phone. In a Facebook post published late Tuesday , Zuckerberg detailed what measures Facebook is taking to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, such as offering free ad space to the World Health Organisation and keeping an eye out for coronavirus-related misinformation. He added: "Through a partnership between our philanthropy and the Gates Foundation, researchers in Cambodia were able to sequence the full genome of the virus that causes COVID-19 in days, making it much easier and faster for them to identify if people had the virus."The team created a new public version of the IDSeq tool so scientists everywhere can study the full genome within the broader context of coronavirus sequences uploaded around the world," Zuckerberg wrote. The IDSeq tool is a pathogen-detection tool first unveiled by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in 2018 in partnership with the Gates Foundation. Neither the CZI nor the Gates Foundation were immediately available for comment when contacted by Business Insider. Sequencing the genome for the novel coronavirus allows researchers to study its origins, what other diseases it's related to, and how it might be stopped. The Cambodian researchers referred to in the Zuckerberg post are far from the only scientists to sequence the genome for COVID-19, since the first sequence was produced by Chinese researchers on January 10. Ghanaian Man Prince Fosu Dies In British Immigration Custody After Being Severely Maltreated
A Ghanaian man Prince Fosu has died after being severely maltreated whilst being held in custody at a British immigration centre. Fosu, believed to be mentally ill, died of dehydration, malnutrition and hypothermia, according to an inquest. Authorities of the centre are accused of neglecting Fosu whilst he was in bad shape. The inquest accused authorities of 'gross negligence' leading to Fosu's death. Prince went to the U.K from Ghana in 2012 on a business visa, but it was cancelled on his arrival at Heathrow. He appealed but was rejected and was later arrested, which is how he ended up at the detention facility. Despite being mentally ill, authorities did not pay close attention to him and it's alleged he died in plain view of others. Describing the inhumane treatment meted out to him, prisons and probations ombudsman Sue McAllister said Mr Fosu had been"Segregated, [and was] living naked in a room dirty with faeces, urine and uneaten food". After the ruling that the treatment meted to Fosu was unacceptable, the Home Office accepted blame and said new safeguards would be put in place to ensure something of this sort never happened again.
