The project was originally supposed to be a Johnny Depp-starrer to fall under Universal's Dark Universe franchise, a collection of titles that would have featured classic horror IP. But after the box office failure of Tom Cruise's "The Mummy" in 2017, the Depp project was scrapped. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. The buildup and release for "The Invisible Man" was text book Blumhouse Productions. Teaming with its longtime studio, Universal, to release an effective trailer. Then paying off with an edge-of-your-seat thriller that earned loads more at the box office than what Blumhouse put into making it. Over the weekend "The Invisible Man," which was made for $7 million , brought in an estimated $29 million to top the domestic box office. It's just another success story from Jason Blum's production company and a glimpse at what could have been if Universal went in another direction with its monster franchise, Dark Universe. At one time, "The Invisible Man" was to be the latest big-budget retelling of the classic H. G. Wells novel with Johnny Depp in the lead role. The brakes were slammed on that after the release of Tom Cruise's "The Mummy" was a bust at the box office in 2017. Instead, Blumhouse took over "The Invisible Man" and turned it into a grounded tale that touches on the #MeToo era, as Elizabeth Moss plays a woman being terrorized by her abusive husband that everyone believes died due to suicide. The success of Blumhouse's version perhaps shows a new pathway for the Universal monsters, which have been earning box office coin for the studio since the 1930s. That theory built momentum over the weekend when "Invisible Man" director Leigh Whannell signed a first-look deal with Blumhouse. This could all just be wishful thinking, but what's certain is that Blumhouse has once more shown that its formula works perfectly for today's moviegoing audience. A high school student in Washington State and a woman in Oregan are the latest "Presume positive" cases, according to CNN. There have been around 70 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the US so far, most of which were among repatriated passengers from the Diamond Princess cruise ship. At least four of the 67 reported cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus are not linked to travel outside the United States after a woman in Oregan and a high school student in Washington state are presumed to have tested possible for the virus, health officials told CNN. A person described by CNN as an "Older woman" reportedly contracted the virus without having recently traveled overseas or knowingly coming in contact with any person who had contracted the coronavirus. The other California case is a woman from Solano County currently hospitalized at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento , the report said. "This new case indicates that there is evidence of community transmission, but the extent is still not clear," Sara Cody, director of the Santa Clara County public health department, said, according to CNN. Health officials said the Santa Clara woman had not traveled to Solano County, raising more questions about how the woman contracted the virus, believed to have originated last year at a market in Wuhan, China, a city in the country's Hubei province. The Washington state case involves a boy at Jackson High School in Snohomish County. As Daily Mail reported, while the latest case marks only the fourth known instance of "Community spread" in the US, it is the third instance within the past 24 hours. Officials for the Centers for Disease Control said it hoped to have every state nationwide testing for the virus by the end of next week as the US ramps up its plan to combat the virus, CNN said, which has so far been primarily in China but has begun to spread across Asian and to parts of Europe. As Business Insider previously reported, there the CDC has confirmed dozens of cases in states across the country in Arizona, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington, and Wisconsin. "Community spread means spread of an illness for which the source of infection is unknown," a CDC press release from Wednesday said. In other words, a case can be described as a "Community spread" when an infected person has had no history of traveling to China where the virus broke out, meaning the virus was likely contracted from another person in the individual's same community. A majority of Americans who have tested positive for the virus 44 were among those repatriated after facing a 14-day quarantine on the Diamond Princess after an outbreak occurred on the cruise ship. France has banned any public event in a 'confined space' with over 5,000 people to stop spread of coronavirus. Companies around the world are telling their employees to work from home amid the coronavirus outbreak. Several young doctors in China have died of the coronavirus. Amazon, Microsoft, and IBM are under pressure to follow Google and drop gender labels like ‘man’ and ‘woman’ from their AI [ARTICLE]

Google announced its AI tool would stop adding gender classification tags in mid-February, instead tagging images of people with neutral terms such as "Person.” Joy Buolamwini, a researcher who found AI tools misclassified people's gender, told Business Insider: "There is a choice… I would encourage all companies to reexamine the identity labels they are using as demographic markers.” Microsoft, Amazon, and IBM are under pressure to stop automatically applying gendered labels such as "Man" or "Woman" from images of people, after Google announced in February it would stop using such tags. The tools can variously describe famous landmarks, facial expressions, logos and gender, and have many applications including content moderation, scientific research, and identity verification. Google said it would drop gender labels from its Cloud Vision API image classification service last week, saying that it wasn't possible to infer someone's gender by appearance and that such labels could exacerbate bias. Now the AI researchers who helped bring about the change say Amazon's Rekognition, IBM's Watson, and Microsoft's Azure facial recognition should follow suit. Joy Buolamwini, a computer scientist at MIT and expert in AI bias, told Business Insider: "Google's move sends a message that design choices can be changed. With technology it is easy to think some things cannot be changed or are inevitable. This isn't necessarily true.” Her research published in 2018 showed AI tools from Microsoft and IBM were more likely to misclassify someone's gender if they were a dark-skinned woman. Buolamwini published further research in 2019 showing similar problems with Amazon's Rekognition software , which Amazon disputed. Sasha Costanza-Chock, an associate professor at MIT, added that firms should reconsider classification tags for people entirely. "All classification tags on humans should be opt-in, consensual, and revokable," she told Business Insider. Costanza-Chock added that "Binary" gender classifications were more likely to harm trans people and dark-skinned women since they are more likely to be misclassified. Asked about potential critics who might read Google's decision as a political one, she added: "If someone has never thought about the potential negative consequences of nonconsensual gender classification, this change might provide a good opportunity for them to learn more about why and how this can be harmful.” IBM did not respond to a request for comment; Microsoft declined to comment. Amazon pointed to its guidelines around gender classification on Rekognition, which state: "A gender binary prediction is based on the physical appearance of a face in a particular image. It doesn't indicate a person's gender identity, and you shouldn't use Amazon Rekognition to make such a determination. We don't recommend using gender binary predictions to make decisions that impact an individual's rights, privacy, or access to services.” Source | Create Website | Criar site | Crear sitio web | Créer un site Web
Respect yourself jealous old man

It would be recalled that in a recent interview with Zionfelix on his 'Uncut' show, Kwaisey Pee claimed that, considering his caliber and knowledge in music, Wendy Shay is not someone he would ever collaborate with on a song, because to him the songstress even though is good in her own rights, lacks the standard and quality he looks out for in his collaborations. These claims didn't go down well with the 'Stevie Wonder' crooner, and she has replied the veteran highlife artiste in equal measure. In a post sighted by Ghanaweb on the musician's official Instagram page, she expressed disgust at how Kwaisey Pee, just like others, always uses her to revive their dead careers and also to trend. She called him a jealous old man and warned him to respect himself. She wrote, "If anyone wants to resurrect their dead career, they want to use Wendy Shay to trend, If you want the young to respect you respect them too Respect is reciprocal.Respect yourself jealous Old Man".
